Early Childhood Setting Codes

Michelle Tressel 6/27/07 Do we need Early Childhood setting codes for kindergarteners?

Michelle Tressel 6/27/07 The question was asked by a few data entry personnel recently. A summary of John Lee's response follows. The explanation and answer to this question will be expanded to include birth through 21 as the determination of whether or not a child needs an Early Childhood Setting code (or IT code or LRE) is based on age and not on grade. For federal reporting purposes, as of the count date: - Infants and toddlers who are 0 – and not yet 3 need an IT code for their setting. - Children who are 3 and not yet 6 need an Early Childhood setting code. - Children and youth who are 6 or older as of count date need an LRE percentage. If a child who is 6 has both an Early Childhood setting code and an LRE, this will not cause any problems in IMS. In short, the determination of whether or not a child needs an IT code, Early Childhood Setting Code or LRE is based on age and not on grade.
